3DS setup videos

Oh my god, I totally missed the Japanese 3DS launch! But then again, most of what we've already covered has already been said. Now for pictures and videos of the console! All from the lucky Japanese who already own one...

Most of these are from GoNintendo.

^ Damn funny. I remember seeing this in January. Finally something Wii couldn't do with Miis can be done here.

Oh, and the six AR cards I posted just a few days ago? All included in the box. HURRAY! *proceeds to hug virtual Kirby*

You can't have them moving freely like Miis, but you can still put them in various poses for photos of them in the real world. Sounds like fun! That Kirby card is going to see a lot of use from me.

Six AR cards

We all know the question box AR card on the top left- it makes Miis show up and lets you play games. The rest of them makes NIntendo characters show up on the 3D space instead of Miis.

This is so cute! I really hope Kirby will be bundled in with 3DS, if not all of these!

NA Nintendo 3DS launch lineup

Of the three regions, US is the last big region to reveal its 3DS launch lineup, and it's also the most substantial of the bunch, containing many American-published 3rd party games which Japan wouldn't have gotten even if they wanted to anyway.

The games that will be out on March 27th 2011 are...!

25 years of Zelda

Most amazing fanart ever made for Zelda's 25th anniversary. Try to pick out the characters from each Zelda game!

GameCube desktop organizers

OH THE HORROR! Tearing apart a perfectly fine Gamecube to turn it into a lowly office organizer.....

It's pretty cool actually, and made by GreenCub, and its tagline is 'Office Supplies Made from Recycled Video Game Systems' Phew. For a moment there I thought live GameCubes were slaughtered.

It stors pencils and pens, paper clips, all sorts of doodads (in the modified controller port area) and even to place your iPhone.

You can actually buy one of these beauties for around 40 dollars, or if you're pro enough you can make your own given that you'll never use your Gamecube ever again. I won't. My Gamecube is one of the remaining few that isn't gathering dust (to heck with Wii backwards compatibility I say).

Mario Kart is a menace

So many things to say but I don't know what to say. This is freaking lol.

Chocolate Zenny

This is epic. Capcom made a whole box of their own currency, in the design of Monster Hunter, and sold them in boxes! Chocolate flavored, and no, it does not come in denominations of 5 zenny and above.

'It feels like....trousers'

How proper. I'm surprised Kirby's Epic Yarn even kept the title completely unbutchered on its way to Europe.

No Pokemon Grey?

From nintendo3dsblog

It's a bit hard to believe, but think of all the adverse effects of not having a 3rd version of B/W. Kyurem will never hog the spotlight outside of Reshiram and Zekrom, there won't be any Move Tutors, new Battle Frontier modes (I loved those in Platinum...), or any chances to re-battle Gym Leaders or most of the in-game Trainers, which is a crushing oversight. Not to mention if the 5th generation ends at Black/White, that means Game Freak will have to put out a 6th gen that much sooner, not counting the time it takes to churn out 27246184364 money-making Gen 5 Pokemon spinoff games. We won't have as many memorable years as we did with the Diamond/Pearl generation. When the D/P anime finally ended after, what, four years of Sinnoh?...I actually felt sad, despite the fact I didn't watch most of the episodes after the first three and before the last ten. I did watch all the movies though.

Though, the article and its sources are still open to interpretation. Perhaps there will be a sequel to B/W, it wouldn't make any sense not to especially with 3DS coming around the corner.

Feature: Nintendo 3DS Greece event

One of our forum members, TheFreakyManga, recently had a chance to attend a 3DS event in The Mall Athens in Greece, and was lucky to get a VIP pass to test the system for a much longer period than the general public (the lucky bastard~). Let's see what he had to say and what he did at the event.

Cosy Fire

This only makes me wonder when people will stop crapping out pointless WiiWare games. It's not a novel idea either- there's at least two other WiiWare games based on fireplaces already. Still, it's the first one I've seen before I found out it was done before.

Europe 3DS launch lineup

5 games more and better than the Japanese launch by a lot. Even Pilotwings Resort was there!

* Pilotwings Resort (Nintendo)
* nintendogs + cats: Golden Retriever & New Friends (Nintendo)
* nintendogs + cats: French Bulldog & New Friends (Nintendo)
* nintendogs + cats: Toy Poodle & New Friends (Nintendo)
* Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition (Capcom / Distributed by Nintendo)
* The Sims 3 (Electronic Arts)
* PES 2011 3D – Pro Evolution Soccer (Konami Digital Entertainment)
* LEGO Star Wars III The Clone Wars (LucasArts)
* RIDGE RACER 3D (Namco Bandai)
* Super Monkey Ball 3D (SEGA)
* SAMURAI WARRIORS: Chronicles (TECMO KOEI)
* Asphalt 3D (Ubisoft)
* Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Shadow Wars (Ubisoft)
* Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3D (Ubisoft)
* Rayman 3D (Ubisoft)

Largely the same but with a more Westernized 3rd party showing, especially from notorious Ubisoft (why didn't its horrible dinosaur game from the JP launch make it here?). 15 games if you count the 3 versions of Nintendogs.

Nintendo pegged the rest of us fans' wishlists to the middle of the year and a little beyond that. Expect Zelda, Steel Diver and Kid Icarus somewhere around June. Still, why couldn't Kid Icarus be a launch game? With its gameplay style it could easily be the console's flagship tech demo.

3DS supports WPA security, game coins, custom soundtracks

From GoNintendo

- 3DS allows for custom game soundtracks via MP3 support, but no titles in the works with this feature

MP3 support, god, finally. I hated converting music files to....whatever format DSi uses to be able to play them that I barely ever used the DSi Sound feature. Even if they don't decide to use custom soundtracks for 3DS games, having MP3 support is a big step up. Albeit quite late.

- The Nintendo eShop, the ability to transfer Nintendo DSiWare games to Nintendo 3DS and the Internet Browser will all be activated via a worldwide system update which is scheduled for late May.

Why the delay? Why not all the features straight from launch? Do you know how badly it would affect sales? You get a lame Japanese launch lineup, and you make the launch product a stripped 3DS with next to no features...who's going to buy the thing until the update? Oh well, Internet Browser for DS sucked anyway.

- The Nintendo 3DS supports WPA and WPA2 Wi-Fi security settings

YES PLEASE. Stupid annoying silver locks keeping me from playing Wi-fi games whenever I want...now gone!

- Game Coins: We anticipate Play Coins to be used in a variety of different ways in-game—unlocking bonus content is just one example. Play Coins will not be used in the e-Shop.
Sounds familiar to what Achievements and trophies do- unlock bonus stuff in their respective consoles. Coud be fun, provided I don't have to StreetPass to get coins- I can bet you a million bucks I won't find a single person in my country who will use the feature. Let alone buy a 3DS.

- not discussing voice chat capabilities, but this should be a feature that will be in future games
inb4Pokemon

- Similar to the way Friend Codes work on Wii, once friend codes are exchanged you see your friend listed by the nickname assigned to their system.
Okay. We get it- FC system is now reduced and awesomely done.

- not talking friend messaging at this time
Not like many people ever used the Wii Message Board anyway.

Get ball of yarn with Kirby's Epic Yarn preorder

Now here's something your cat would really appreciate.

But what's IN the yarn is what its human master would appreciate! Wonder if it's Kirby plush toys? It wouldn't make sense if it wasn't. Only in Australia.

...And what if there's nothing in the ball of yarn? Well, like I said, it makes a good cat distraction for a couple hours, or if you somehow enjoy knitting as much as you enjoy gaming (ooh).

Super Mario Bros. BG design sheets

Written by pikaby

I think I've seen the BG sheets for The Legend of Zelda before (the dungeon layouts were done on square grids and paper) but definitely not Mario. Found them off Kotaku today although how long they've been floating around the net before Kotaku picked up on them is unknown.

Pokemon B/W top preordered game in US

Written by pikaby

Source: VGChartz

Although it still pales in comparison to the Japanese preorder numbers of 1.5 million, Pokemon Black/White managed to rack up 759000 copies in preorders, and has already broken the record for most preordered game ever in America. It beat out the next game in the chart 4 to 1.

Now that's the power of Pokemon! Getting bigger and more epic with each passing generation!
